The scientific activity was mainly carried out in the Dept of Life, Health and Environmental Sciences, University of L’Aquila, L'Aquila, Italy. The scientific interest is focused on the study of the roles of peroxisomes and peroxisome proliferatoractivated receptors (PPARs) in neuronal differentiation, neurodegenerative disease and tumours of neural origin, by the use of different experimental models including normal and transformed neural cells. Furthermore, the research activity of Dr Benedetti is focused on the study of new molecular targets useful for the formulation and development of innovative therapeutic approaches for brain tumours, neurodegenerative and gut disease, and pain. A recently area of interest is focused on the effects of environmental contaminants on lipid metabolism and brain development in zebrafish.
